The Gospel lesson for this week is from Matthew 22:15-22.
“Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s.” Believers have all heard this passage from Jesus but sometimes don’t do it. A believer might not vote, not take an interest or active role in what’s going, miss worship, skip volunteering, or avoid doing things to build him spiritually, only to wonder why things aren’t going well.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind,” is the greatest and first commandment. The second is “You shall love your neighbor as yourself ” (Matthew 22:37-40). If believers truly act from a generous love of God, all else will fall in place.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 shows what it means to love generously: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
