Medi-Cal income subsidy explained
LW CARES FUND
Those who qualify for Medi-Cal along with their Medicare insurance might not know that they can receive an income subsidy that pays their Medicare Part B Insurance premium, saving $202.90.
The Leisure World Cares Fund will host speaker Nancy Hurtado Genter along with Brendan Ripley of JAR Insurance Services, on July 20 at 11 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9.
Hurtado Genter will discuss Medicare and provide additional information on Medi-Cal, including how Medicare and Medi-Cal work together (Medi-Medi), income and asset eligibility requirements, benefits such as assistance with Medicare Part B premiums, and the application process. She and Ripley will also touch on In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) and other caregiving services that may be available, as well as how they help people navigate their Medicare options and identify benefits they may not be aware of. Both are committed to educating and empowering seniors to make informed healthcare decisions as well as assisting those who may need help applying for Medi-Cal.
The potential savings are almost equivalent to the $200/month cash subsidy being offered by the LW Cares Fund to help residents on fixed incomes better afford their HOA fees.
To apply for the subsidy, contact the fund at lwcares@ lwcaresfund. org or 562-262-8280. More information is available at www. lwcaresfund.org. Applications or donations can be made on the website. Applications are held in strict confidence and awards are determined within a few days. —Nick Massetti
