654 LWers show up to donate
THE SALVATION ARMY
The Golden Age Foundation (GAF) volunteers filled three Salvation Army donation trucks up with unwanted items from the LW community on June 13. Over 654 vehicles showed up to donate 6,113 pounds of items during the five hour service.
Donated items included small furniture, kitchen items, appliances, luggage, men’s suites, shoes, CDs, books, women’s handbags, other and miscellaneous items.
The program, dubbed “Salvation Saturdays,” brings Salvation Army donation trucks into Leisure World every other month, providing a convenient and cost-effective way for residents to rid themselves of unwanted items. The program also saves money by cutting down haul-away costs that were previously disposed of at the 1.8-Acre site. The donations will support the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers.
GAF would like to thank its volunteers: Anna Derby, Dave Forney, Tonette Kadrmas, Rosemarie Da Roza, Kathy Gupton, Carol Schbeck, Lisa Brass, Namil Shin, Vicky Burman, James Farr, Nancy Montgomery, Charlie Dunn, Geneva Potepan, Carol Ostergaard, Bob Dunn, Young Cho and Linda Johnson. The GAF also thanks everyone who donated monetarily to the foundation at the event. For more information, go to www. goldenagefdn.org.
