Recap: GRF Bus Trip to ‘Falstaff’
Residents of Leisure World attended a lively performance of “Falstaff” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on April 30, enjoying an evening of music, comedy and world-class production by the LA Opera.
Composed by Giuseppe Verdi and conducted by James Conlon, “Falstaff” is Verdi’s final opera and a celebrated comic masterpiece. The story follows the mischievous Sir John Falstaff, who hatches a plan to solve his financial troubles by courting two wealthy women at once—only to find himself outmatched by their clever schemes.
The production featured audience favorite Craig Colclough in the title role, leading a talented ensemble cast in a fast-paced comedy filled with disguises, misunderstandings and playful revenge. With its lavish period costumes and richly detailed sets, the performance transported audiences to “merry old England” for an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Running approximately two hours and 40 minutes, including one intermission, the opera was performed in Italian with English subtitles, making it accessible to a wide audience. Residents appreciated both the humor and the musical brilliance of the production, as well as the opportunity to attend a cultural event of this caliber.
The outing was part of Leisure World’s ongoing effort to provide enriching experiences for residents, offering convenient access to some of Southern California’s premier performing arts events.
