The LW Democratic Club will hold two canvassing training sessions on April 29 in Clubhouse 3, Room 9, from 1011 a.m. or 1-2 p.m. Whether a person is a seasoned veteran or someone who has been waiting for the right moment to step up, this is a great opportunity for Democrats to participate in the upcoming elections. Both sessions cover the same material.

For the “pros,” this is a wonderful chance to sharpen skills and share wisdom. For new volunteers, it’s a warm, nopressure, introduction to how to connect with the community. Club officers often hear people ask what they can they do, and their answer is simple: consider canvassing, it strengthens community bonds. Those who missed out on Prop 50 canvassing or are new to Leisure World and want to be involved, should email Jane Brittingham at janebrittingham51@ gmail. com or Kathy Moran kmoran97@yahoo.com.

The May 1 walkout—often called May Day—is a global tradition of labor strikes and demonstrations rooted in the 1886 Haymarket Affair in Chicago. This year, there will be a May Day Strong coalition that includes groups like the National Education Association and Higher Education Labor United. These groups are organizing a nationwide call for “No Work, No School, No Shopping” in solidarity for worker rights and public investment.

The LW Democratic Club will participate in the event at the LW globe on May 1 from 2-3 p.m. Beyond the demonstration, the club encourages everyone to stay put, skip shopping and reschedule appointments in support of this cause. All members are encouraged to attend to stand together for labor and community strength.

The Democratic Hospitality Booth is open the first Tuesday and third Thursday of each month outside Clubhouse 6 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. For more information contact Rachael Lehmberg at rlehmberg815@ gmail.com.

The club’s next Voter Education session is on Wednesday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m., in Clubhouse 3, Room 3. Education sessions are the second Wednesday of each month. For more information, email Bender at beverleybender@gmail.com.

The LW Democratic Club believes health care is a right, diversity is a strength, the economy should work for everyone and that facts and truth matter.
