Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore

On Sunday, June 15, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate The Holy Trinity Sunday and Father’s Day with Rev. Murray D. Finck presiding.

The Communion and worship service gathers at 13564 St. Andrews Drive every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. All residents are welcome to attend.

Fellowship will continue afterwards in the Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea, cookies and snacks.

The church continues to collect donations of canned and boxed foods.

A new Bible study has begun on the women of the Bible. The first lesson of the study was about the first women named in the Bible: Eve, Adah, Zillah, and Naamah.

The group will do an overview of the first 11 chapters of Genesis to put that ancient history and these women in context on June 18. From there, it will continue on with other strong and influential woman in the Hebrew scriptures. These are woman who were guides for Jesus’ mother, Mary.

The Bible study is led by Rev. Finck and meets from noon-1:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. People are welcome to bring their own lunch. There are drinks available and usually some baked goods for a small dessert. This is a great way to meet members and friends and to share an understanding of faith and the Holy Scriptures.

The gospel lesson for this week is from John 16:12-15. The third Sunday of June is Father’s Day will coincide with the final lesson from John. This Sunday is also known as the Holy Trinity Sunday.

In these scriptures, Jesus tries to reassure his followers that, although he may leave them, he will not leave them alone. He again promises his followers the Holy Spirit to guide them and reassures that he and the father are one, and that the Spirit is one with them. This gospel lesson is about faith and trust. Believers need to have faith and trust in the promises that Jesus gives. Believers all have the grace of the Spirit, but it is important to listen to it.
