LaCascia shoots rare eagle at Baker course

LW MEN'S GOLF LEAGUE

Eight golfers of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League competed at the 5,600 yard par 71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on May 28. The weather was initially overcast, but sunshine broke through the clouds early in the round. The tees, fairways and greens were in excellent shape, with four of the eight golfers shooting net at or below par.

There were five birdies—two each by Jim Goltra and Dave LaCascia, and one by Clay Fischer. Goltra was closest to the pin on both the 140 yard par 3 seventh and 15th holes. Gary Stivers had fewest putts.

Winners (net score: gross minus handicap): Sam Choi, 5 under 66, first place; Fischer, 4 under 67, second; LaCascia and Kyle Van, 2 under 69, third; Stivers, fourth; Fujio Norihiro, Goltra and Bob Munn, fifth.

Eleven golfers competed at the 4,000 yard par 62 David L. Baker Executive Golf Course in Fountain Valley on June 2. The weather was sunny and the temperature very comfortable. It was quite a nice morning to play golf with friends.

The course was dry and tees; fairways and greens were in excellent shape. With good playing conditions and nice weather, there were a number of great scores but only six of the 11 players shot at or below net par. Dave LaCascia scored a rare eagle (2 under par) by sinking his 100 yard approach shot from the fairway on the 301 yard par 4 17th.

There were two birdies— one each by Fujio Norihiro and Dom Bautista. Goltra was closest to the pin on both the 100 yard par 3 third and 110 yard par 3 15th holes. Norihiro and Bautista had fewest putts.

A flight winners: Fujio Norihiro, 10 under 52, first place; LaCascia, 8 under 54, second; Sam Choi, 5 under 57, third; Goltra, fourth; Stivers and Clay Fischer, fifth.

B flight winners: Bautista, 7 under 55, first place; Tom Ross and Bob Munn, 5 under 57, second; Ron Jackson, 3 under 59, third; Bill McKusky, fourth.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (2 under par) are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-6745975.
