Letters to the Editor
Editor:
Trump has finally started a business that he won’t run into bankruptcy, the presidency. One profit center, the White House, has featured frijoles vended in the Oval Office, car sales on the front drive and Easter baskets for sale on the front lawn. Mar-a-Lago, undoubtedly his chief cash cow, political rally banquets paid for by attendees at thousands of dollars per plate, lodging for Secret Service personnel, foreign emissaries and potential business opportunities, all with retinues, paid for by American taxpayers. The inter-branch of this business are his golf resorts. On one occasion, he directed Mike Pence to stay at his resort over 100 miles from where he was working.
On a different subject, here is an addendum to an earlier letter that had a list of historical similarities between Germany in the 1930s and and the U.S. now. We are arresting people without warrants and sending them to concentration camps in other countries.
Germany’s behavior was the same. Many of their camps, especially the death camps, were in other countries. This action was justified because they were Jews. We are justifying our action, saying they are members of Venezuela gang. If they were known to be a gang of criminals and terrorists, why didn’t we just arrest them with warrants and put them in our jails?
This egregious disregard of the laws by the Executive occurred through the subservience of the Congress we elected, and annointment by Robert’s Court. H.L. Mencken said, “When fanatics are on top, there is no limit to oppression.”

If you get your news from NPR, did you read that article from the ex-NPR employee who says that there are 87 producers at NPR, and all 87 are Democrats?

I keep meeting residents here who don’t love the President.
And I believe that if the media weren’t corrupt, Trump’s approval rating would be 95%. Did you read that article by the ex-employee of NPR who said, “There are 87 producers who work here, and all 87 are Democrats.”
Trump’s the greatest.

In response to a recent letter (March 27), a billion is not a million million. A billion is a thousand million.
And in response to another letter (March 27), I personally believe that Trump and Musk are doing an amazing job. Already they’ve saved the taxpayers over $1,000 dollars per person. And, as I understand it, they’re getting rid of the waste and fraud at the Social Security offices, e.g., all the citizens who are 175 years old, and still receiving benefits. I applaud the job they’re doing. In fact, I believe Trump’s the greatest president of the last 100 years. Marge Lux Mutual 5 Editor’s note: In some European languages and historically in British English, “billion” meant one million multiplied by one million (1,000,000,000,000). The U.S. meaning of a billion is a thousand million, or one followed by nine zeros (1,000,000,000). Editor: We American consumers are now starting to pay for Trump’s tariffs. We will pay for all price increases created by tariffs, and the Trump government will collect it all.
This is a tax on us. All Leisure World residents/shareholders will be paying significantly more for almost everything they need to survive. This includes food, clothing, GRF and Mutual assessments (starting in 2026), utilities, transportation, services, etc.
The tariffs collected are projected to help pay for the income tax reduction, for the wealthiest Americans, expected to be passed by Congress this year. (The ongoing DOGE federal workforce reduction will save money that will also help with the tax reduction for the wealthy.)
The Yale Budget Lab reports that American households will pay an average of $3,800 per year just for tariffs. Households at the very bottom income level will still pay an average of $1,700.
Our most income-challenged residents here in Leisure World now face increased financial stress. We must look for ways to help them.
