Margaret Smith 1937-2025
With hearts of sadness and longing, we announce that Margaret Smith passed from this earth on March 18, 2025, to forever live in her eternal home in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
After her birth in Bristol, England in 1937, and her father being stationed in Canada during WWII, she immigrated to the state of Maine in 1949. It was there, in Dexter, Maine, where she met her husband to be Eugene Smith.
During their 69 years of marriage, they relocated to California, where Gene went to work for North American Aviation. She birthed three children in California: Barbara Smith (later married to Bill Smith), Beverly Morang (later married to Mike Morang), and Susan Smith (later married to Bob Pullen). Trinity Pullen, the couple’s only grandchild, was born in 1996 to Susan.
Raising the children, and serving Jesus her entire life, Margaret, Gene and the children returned to Maine in 1969, and eventually retired to Leisure World, in Seal Beach, California in 2004.
All who know Margaret speak of her unmatched grace and kindness to everyone she met. She served with her husband, Gene, at the Baptist Church in Leisure World, and also assisted the Leisure World Emergency Meals Organization for 11 years while both were very active in the Cribbage Club, Friends of the Library, Pinochle Club, Christian Fellowship and Square Dancing.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Gene Smith, daughters Barbara Smith, Beverly and Mike Morang, Susan, Bob and granddaughter Trinity Pullen. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Fred and Rhoda Cooper, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Margaret was preceded by her parents Ted and Gwen Waite, sister Jean Cooper, and son-in-law Bill Smith.
Please join us in fond memories of our beloved Margaret whom will be forever missed, and rejoice with us that she now square dances in heaven with the saints around the throne of God.
There will be a memorial service for Margaret on Sunday, April 27, at 11 a.m. in the Leisure World Baptist Church for all who would like to celebrate the life of this blessed child of God.
