FRIENDLY VISITOR This stately white wader of quiet waters is a fixture in Leisure World. Most recently seen in Mutual 14, it meanders around the Mutuals and is remarkably calm around humans. The LW Weekly has received dozens of photos over the past few years of the egret. An egret is defined as any of several usually white herons that grow long, graceful plumes during the breeding season.

The City of Seal Beach ….

The City of Seal Beach will upgrade traffic signal cabinet equipment at the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard and Golden Rain Road on July 13 at about 10 a.m. This will require the intersection to go dark and be controlled by stop signs for about 30 minutes. Motorists should proceed with caution.

The music of Bruce Springsteen roared out of the Amphitheater July 3 after LW residents packed the bowl to celebrate one of the first large gatherings since COVID-19 shutdowns. Josh Schreiber paid tribute to Springsteen and the E Street Band. A fireworks light show capped the night, which started with Koffel’s Tri Tip Man selling barbecue dinners at 3 p.m. in the Amphitheater parking lot.

MEMBER COLUMN by Donna Gambol LW contributor “Are you astronauts?” was my enthusiastic query when two petite women, dressed in blue jumpsuits, came through the door of the car rental facility at the Long Beach Airport. “Indeed we are,” was their response. “Wow, you’re Christina Koch, and you’re Nicole Mann,” I said, reading the embroidered name tags on their uniforms.
