Assembly of God

James 4:1-12 is the basis for Pastor Chuck Franco’s sermon on March 15, titled “Conflict or Peace?” The message could be relevant to current world events, but the focus for this passage is on conflict between the spirit of God and fleshly motives and desires. James addresses Christians’ struggle to act upon pure motives and an undivided heart, humbly serving God and others, or yielding to envy, jealousy and greed. James can be viewed as the Christfollower handbook, as it continues to expose human frailties and sin, and points to the power of God to overcome them and live a Christ-honoring life.

The Wednesday Bible study continues in Francis Chan’s series on the Book of James, chapter 5:7-12. Patience and endurance during affliction of any kind is part of the maturing process of the believer. He uses the familiar situation of the farmer planting and then waiting through seasons of rain before realizing the resulting good harvest, and points to the prophets of old and Job as examples of the result of patiently enduring hardship, reminding them that God is full of tenderness and mercy.
