LW veterans will be honored at two upcoming events
Veterans Day Observance
American Legion Post 327 and its Auxiliary will host the annual Veterans Day celebration at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, in Clubhouse 2.
The Velvetones will play patriotic music starting at 9:30 a.m. The Navy Sea Cadets will usher in the flags.
Legion Cmdr. Rich Carson will introduce the speaker, U.S. Army veteran Fernando Arroyo, who served in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. He works for a nonprofit called Step Forward Academy and wrote a memoir about his combat experiences that was published in August. He will talk about rehabilitation programs available to veterans.
The American Legion Auxiliary will have scarves, jewelry and flags available for sale. It will also have remembrance poppies for a donation. All are welcome.
Veterans Pinning Ceremony
The American Legion, in cooperation with Traditions Health and Newport Beach Memory Care, will host a Veterans Pinning and Legacy Remembrance Ceremony to honor all LW veterans at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 18, at Veterans Plaza between the LW Library and Clubhouse 4. The purpose of the event is to publicly acknowledge the military service and sacrifices made by LW veterans and their families. The ceremony will give each vet an opportunity to share part of his or her story. Vets will receive a special pin and certificate honoring their time in uniform and the service they gave to the country.
Refreshments will be served. LW veterans from every branch of service and rank are welcome to attend, as are LW residents and friends who want to honor these military heroes. To RSVP, call Yvonne Smith, Traditions Health Hospice, at 562-301-5482.
