Art League wowed by presentation from noted fine art photographer
On April 14, the Art League was treated to a remarkable presentation by fine art photographer Jeffrey Rovner. Rovner took the crowd on an enthralling journey through his adventures as corporate attorney, technologist, magician, university professor and his current foray into Artificial Intelligence (AI). Each piece in Rovner’s AI series represents a category of artificial intelligence, and the plexiglass protecting each photograph is laser-etched with an excerpt of computer code from an AI application of a specific category. The etching casts a shadow of the code back on the photograph.
Rovner’s AI artwork was so influential that in 2019, at the invitation of the United Nations, he exhibited his AI photographs in Geneva, Switzerland, during the UN’s AI for Good Global Conference.
To benefit the Art League, Rovner donated a framed print of his highly publicized “Yangon Monastery Myanmar” photograph as a raffle prize, which was won by league member Pat Herman. Also honored at the meeting was Terese Smith for her painting “Striped Open Peony,” voted most popular by attendees. Each of the league’s monthly demonstrations, workshops and presentations are made possible by a grant from the Golden Age Foundation (GAF). GAF and the Art League’s goal is to bring opportunities to learn, display and be enriched by exposure to extraordinary artists and exhibitions.
The 2026 Art in Bloom show, an annual fine art exhibition of works created by Leisure World artists—sponsored by GAF and Gasper Monteer Realty Group —will be held Saturday, June 20, from 4-7 p.m. in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby. The event draws hundreds of residents and invited guests from the area.
Residents who want to submit their art for consideration may pick up an application in the Recreation Office in Building 5 or request an application via email at lwsb.artleague@gmail.com. —Jim Greer
