All are invited to watch Umberto Giordano’s high flying romantic opera “Fedora” on Tuesday, April 21, at 1:30 p.m. in the Learning Center of Clubhouse 3.

The tale is a visceral portrayal of love, passion and human heartbreak. Set in St. Petersburg, Paris and the clean mountain air of a Swiss alpine retreat, it features the highly hummable music from these places.

Act 1 introduces the Russian princess Fedora whose engagement is cut short by the dueling assassination of her beloved Count Vladimir. She swears on the cross to avenge Vladimir’s death by administering poison to the suspected murderer, Count Loris Ipanov.

Act 2 Fedora encounters Loris in Paris who falls for her and reveals his action was justified after finding that Vladimir has seduced Loris’ wife demonstrating his unfaithfulness to Fedora. Yet Fedora denounces Loris to the Russian authorities, perpetrating the death of Loris’ brother and mother.

Act 3 reveals Fedora’s actions to Loris, with whom she has now fallen in love, and to amend her mistakes with which she is now guilty, ingests the poison she had harbored, dying in Loris’ arms.

The production is in Italian with English subtitles. People are encouraged to wear masks if desired. No dues or fees are collected.
