Hui O Hula showcase is April 18
On Saturday, April 18, LW’s Hui O Hula dancers invite everyone to enjoy an island-style afternoon at their upcoming ho‘ike (hula exhibition) in Clubhouse 4. Guests are invited to settle in for a mini getaway to Honolulu without ever leaving Seal Beach. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome to bring whatever helps make the afternoon easy and enjoyable.
The ho‘ike program will spotlight the island of O‘ahu through songs and dances performed by Hui O Hula dancers. Featured numbers include “Honolulu, I’m Coming Back Again,” a cheerful return to Honolulu; “Waikiki,” a classic love song filled with affection and longing for that famous shore; “White Sandy Beach,” a tender island favorite that stirs memories of love, home and ocean breezes; and “He‘eia,” a lively number celebrating one of O‘ahu’s beloved places. The club’s newer dancers will also join the program with “He Aloha No O Wai‘anae,” a song of love for Wai‘anae on O‘ahu’s west coast.
After the exhibition, the audience will be invited to hula along with the club and keep the happy mood rolling as Barefoot Wahine takes over with lively island-style music. A 50/50 drawing will add to the fun. Newly approved vendor Haole Boy Shave Ice will offer shaved ice for purchase. Its menu is available at hbshaveice.com.
Later that same afternoon, Hui O Hula dancers will share aloha as volunteer greeters at We Care Orange County’s 19th annual “From the Heart 2026” fundraiser, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Navy Golf Course, 5660 Orangewood Ave., Cypress, CA 90630. We Care Orange County is a local nonprofit that helps prevent homelessness and supports families, senior, and veterans in northwest Orange County with emergency help such as rent assistance, utility payments, food, personal care items and more. Hui dancers are honored to take part in this charitable event.
Free hula lessons are offered twice a week for all skill levels. Classes meet on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. in the Clubhouse 6 Mirror Room upstairs, and on Thursdays at 1 p.m. in the conference room next to the Optum pharmacy. For class information, contact instructor Jojo Weingart at jojo@huiohula.com or 562-338-1502.
