Proven results: strengthening our infrastructure through fiscal responsibility
BETTER TOGETHER
by David Norvell
GRF Executive Director, CMCA, AMS, PCAM
Since joining the team, I have heard concerns regarding projects in the past that may have run over budget or lacked the necessary oversight. Staff takes these concerns seriously.
Because of those past concerns, we recently chose to perform a review of the past two years to see exactly how our projects have fared. I am pleased to share some very good news that highlights an effort on behalf of the staff to be more diligent in the bidding process and the oversight of projects.
We recognize that our vendors bring essential expertise to our community. We work closely with these professionals and rely on their technical knowledge to execute complex tasks; however, we do not simply “set and forget” these contracts. We continue to ask clarifying questions throughout every phase of a project. By ensuring that every action aligns strictly with the agreed-upon proposal, we work to ensure that we are receiving the exact level of service expected. This proactive communication with our vendors is what allows us to stay more effective and efficient.
The data shows that this approach is working. Across the following projects alone (see page 5), the team has successfully saved the community over $150,000* compared to the original approved amounts.
*Total excludes incomplete projects, projects with unpaid invoices, and annual contracts.
