Faith Christian Assembly

Jesus gives the greatest invitation in Matthew 11. Verse 28 has a familiar passage to many Christians, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

How do people find this rest that Jesus is offering? First they must come to him. When people come to Jesus, not for what he gives, but for who he is. The very act of coming to him is rest. Because when believers truly come to Jesus in humility, they will learn of him. He has so much to teach, and he is imminently qualified to do so because he created all people, therefore he understands their nature.

What Jesus is saying to people is “Learn of me in our quiet time, learn of me by not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, learn of me by placing ourselves under the whole counsel of God, no matter how unpalatable our current culture may find it. Learn of me because God commands it; because it is a person’s responsibility to respond with obedience that brings honor to God.” Believers need a humble desire to know the truth, and a temperament to be saved by it, and that “All you who labor and are heavy laden will be given rest.”
