Lanea Palmer from Meals On Wheels Orange County (MOWOC) Adult Healthcare will speak at the Sunshine Club’s meeting in on Friday, Dec. 2, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m.

The purpose of this presentation is to inform residents in Leisure World about the additional MOWOC programs. These services include:

• Medical/nursing monitoring (glucose monitoring available, if needed).

• Physical and occupational therapy.

• Social services.

•Nutritional services including breakfast, lunch and a snack.

• Activity programs.

• Program aides to assist with incontinence and/or transfers.

• Transportation to and from the center. MOWOC also provides consultants including:

• Registered dieticians, speech therapists and psychiatrists (when requested by PMD).

• Monthly interdisciplinary team meetings with center medical physician.

• Quarterly reviews of medication files by a licensed pharmacist. Requirements for participation in the program include:

• A medical condition, requiring physician prescribed treatment or therapies.

• Physical or mental impairment that handicaps activities of daily living.

• Suffering physical or mental deterioration without treatment or rehabilitation.

Residents can learn more about the program and how to get involved at the meeting. The Sunshine Club requires no membership fees, but donations are welcome. Refreshments will be served at the meeting.

On Friday, Dec. 16, the Sunshine Club will hold its annual member holiday party from 10:30 a.m-1 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, guest are welcome to attend. There will be a sumptuous Korean buffet lunch provided at the party. The last day for people to sign up is Friday, Dec. 9.

The Sunshine Club began on Jan. 12, 2012, with the mission to “Build bridges for a brighter Leisure World,” and to help all different people to get along in the community get the best out of Leisure World. For more information, contact Anna Derby at 562-301-5339.
