Assembly of God

The recent Olympics had millions glued to their televisions or computer screens, captivated by the precise execution of skill and control demonstrated by the athletes. As spectacular as the medal-worthy performances were, just as spectacular were the unsuccessful attempts made by athletes whose minute errors were multiplied exponentially by high speed and slick surfaces, resulting in remarkable crashes or falls. The principle of this week’s sermon from James 3:1-12, “Maintaining Control,” could apply to sports as to the Christian life. Christians’ ability to maintain control, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, can mean the difference between spectacular successes or remarkable failures.

Bible study resumes Wednesday, March 4, with Francis Chan’s series on James 4:1-12. This lesson deals with hard truths: judging others, quarreling, jealousy and pride. Are Christians today up to the challenge of becoming humble servants? Discover why this is so important to Christian life as students examine the scripture and apply it to contemporary living.
