LW Cares Fund distributes first financial awards to residents
The Leisure World Cares Fund issued its first financial awards last week. The awards amount to a subsidy toward a resident’s Mutual homeowner’s fees of $200 per month for a 12-month period. Awards are made to residents who are on low fixed incomes where increases in those fees have stressed their finances and threaten their ability to remain in the community. The fund is looking to those who are not financially stressed to donate and help those who are. The initial donors to the fund have provided a starting chest of funds that have allowed awards to be made in a timely fashion.
The first set of applicants, all of whom have incomes of less than $2,000 per month. They are going without heat, phone plans, cars and other life essentials that many take for granted.
The application process has been streamlined with teams of three of the fund’s directors shepherding them through the applications to a final recommendation within a couple of weeks. Potential candidates are encouraged to contact the fund and apply.
In order to maintain and expand the number of clients that can be helped, more donors are needed. Donors of any amount will be acknowledged on the fund’s website. The fund can accept designated sustaining donations where the donor specifies that their donation is provided to a particular resident who otherwise qualifies.
Donations are tax deductible. Both donors and applicants are encouraged to contact the Fund through its website at www.lwcaresfund.org, by email at lwcares@lwcaesdfund.org or by phone at 562-262-8200.
