LW CARES FUND

The recently announced Leisure World Cares Fund is rapidly developing its client services application process.

That process was largely fleshed out at its Aug. 13 board meeting, and applications will be accepted beginning Sept. 1.

The application will consist of submitting an intake form with income, asset and expense information, which will be acted upon within two weeks. The applicant will be interviewed to complete and verify the information. The applicant will receive a call and follow up correspondence to learn of the process outcome within two weeks. Subsidies will range up to $200/month for at least 12 months. A review and renewal may follow.

The target client will be one on a fixed income who is struggling to keep up with his or her HOA fees. The HOA fee subsidy is intended to provide a measure of financial stability and peace of mind. The aid will not be a rescue plan but it is intended to forestall homelessness.

Donations to the LW Cares Fund are critical to its success. Since becoming publicly known, the fund has received donations from two dozen donors. A few have become sustaining donors and signed up to donate monthly. One donated directly from an IRA to satisfy the person’s annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). That had the additional benefit of lowering that person’s taxable gross income. Many more one-time donors have contributed generously to the initial chest from which the first applicants will be funded. All donors are recognized by name on the fund’s website unless they choose to remain anonymous. As the fund becomes more well known, more donors are seeing it as a way to support their struggling neighbors in a meaningful and convenient way. All donations are tax deductible.

Applications can be started by downloading the application form from the website at www.lwcaresfund.org or asking for the form by calling 562-262-8280 or emailing lwcares@lwcaresfund. org. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the LW Cares Fund to get more information or to have a donation picked up.
