‘Paper Clips’ film to air Nov. 6

SENIORS FOR PEACE

The Seniors for Peace Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 9, to watch the inspiring documentary film “Paper Clips.”

Children generally reflect the values and attitudes of the adults in their lives. Thurgood Marshall, who was nearly lynched when he worked for the NAACP, was haunted by photos of children at lynchings in the deep south, all dressed in their Sunday best, smiling and laughing and having great fun in the carnival-like atmosphere. This 2004 documentary is the perfect antidote to such horrible images.

“Paper Clips” follows a middle school class in a small Tennessee town. The principal and teachers decide to teach the students about the Holocaust in a unique way. It’s a beautiful story about instilling empathy, compassion and tolerance in young children. The documentary, according to Roger Ebert, “is straightforward, heartfelt and genuine.”

The meeting officially starts at 2 p.m., but attendees can come as early as 1:45 to socialize and enjoy some refreshments. All are welcome to attend.
