Gong Club Summer Show: Aug. 29

Gong Club Summer Show: Aug. 29 Gong Club Summer Show: Aug. 29

The Gong Club will host a summer jam session in Clubhouse 2 on Friday, Aug. 29. Doors open at 6 p.m. for happy hour. The Gong Club has been working diligently to adapt its program format based on guest feedback. In January, the format was closely based on the late 1970s television program “The Gong Show,” featuring lots of crazy performances like Dean, Jean the dancing team, an unknown comic, judges and a real gong. The initial plan was to alternate monthly show content between comedy game shows and a series of mini concerts.

Guests have been entertained all year by LW’s favorite performers including Eric and Sandy Nelson, Yuri and Luba Lotakov, and The Cool Blue Jazz Ensemble. Now, the club has added transitions between shows with mixed content and themed parties with the introduction of commercial breaks to showcase other popular LW clubs. Guests transition too as they become more interactive. This month the club will host more campus favorites for another summer concert. The theme of this show will be based on having summer fun and includes dressing up in summer wear. The show is free, but donations can be made to offset costs for the club, and separate tips can be given to the band.

To help with next month’s show, contact club president Lu De Santis at 310-686-4763. The September show will have a Renaissance festival theme. The club hopes more talented LW residents will join. There is no pressure of being gonged; the club no longer gongs people.
