Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to join the Tournament Poker Club at its tournament on Saturday, Aug. 2 in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee/treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

The club had a great turnout for its July 19 tournament. A great time was had by all 60 participants, win or lose. Every week there are special prizes for particular hands. This week’s high hand winners were John Barth (2-6 diamonds straight flush) and Robert Steffun (5-9 hearts straight flush). Tom Pappas won the prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 3-10.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Steve Edrich, first place; Fiona Wolfe, second; Wayne Casper, third; Jeff Rolnick, fourth; Harold Morehead, fifth; Doug Wolfe, sixth, and Joyce Smith, seventh. Play continued until Edrich and Wolfe were head’s up. The lead went back and forth for quite a while with newcomer Wolfe holding her own against an experienced player. During the last hand, holding 10-9, Wolfe went all-in before the flop and was called by Edrich holding A-9 of spades. The flop was A-4 -9, giving Edrich the lead with a pair of aces. The turn was a Q and the river was a 3. Neither card helped Wolfe’s hand, giving Edrich the win.

Edrich has lived in Leisure World and has been a member of the poker club for six years. This was his fourth final table win at a regular tournament. In addition to Tournament Poker, Edrich is a member of the bocce ball and shuffleboard clubs, and has also been known to shoot some pool.
