Shuffl eboard Club travels to Laguna Woods for mixed play on May 12

Shuffleboard Club members will vote for new officers today, May 8, at the monthly membership meeting in Clubhouse 1 at 10 a.m. Nominations will be accepted from the floor. A slate of officers was presented at the April general meeting.

Sue Burkschab has spearheaded the club’s trip to play Laguna Woods on May 12. She has arranged for carpools to lessen the burden of driving, and has submitted names so security at that end will be ready for visitors from Leisure World. The courts at Laguna Woods have recently been refurbished and repainted so the club is excited to host. A planned meet-and-greet with coffee, tea, doughnuts and more will begin at 9 a.m. and give members of both teams a chance to mingle. Burkschab had the idea to mix up the teams so every round will have 12 players from Leisure World and 12 from Laguna Woods, playing two different rounds during the morning session. In this way, teams won’t be competing per se, and the results will be more communal. Anyone who wants to stay afterward will go to a nearby Mexican restaurant, which can accommodate split checks. A big thank you to Burkschab for her high energy, organizing skills and wonderful ideas.

April 24 Thursday afternoon league results: Team Anita and Team Lynne tied things up 6-6. Team Anita’s allgame winners were Sue Rotter and Rod Leebrick. Team Lynne’s solo all-game winner was Lynne Haines. Team Jack beat Team Kay 8-4. Team Jack had two all-game winners: Steve Edrich and Lynne Baidack. Team Kay’s solo all-game winner was Hoan Lekhac.

April 25 Friday morning league results: Team Patti edged by Team Shel 7-5. Neither Team Patti nor Team Shel had any all-game winners. Team Sally surpassed Team Carol 7-5. Team Sally had two all-game winners: Lynne Haines and Karen Powell. Team Carol had no all-game winners.

April 29 Tuesday evening league results: Team Karen excelled over Team Sue 9-3. Team Karen had four all-game winners: Judy Hulin, Karen Mendon, Helen Neun and Lori Probert. Team Bob beat Team Sally 7-5. Team Bob’s all-game winner was Lynne Baidack and Team Sally’s all-game winners were Anne Calvo and Sally Fowler.
