LW Men’s Golf League

The Leisure World Men’s Golf League is looking for new players. People are invited to play at a course of their choice, and enjoy the friendship and great golfing.

It was a cool but clear morning that greeted eight men of the league at the River View Golf Course in Santa Ana on Jan. 17. River View parallels the Santa Ana river and crosses it several times. With long par 3s and numerous elevation changes, the course challenges all the players every time.

Even with good playing conditions only half of the eight golfers shot net at or under par. In addition, there were three birdies—two by Clay Fischer, and one by Jim Goltra. Gary Stivers had fewest putts in the A flight. Bob Munn and William Hillhouse tied for fewest in the B. Closest to the pin on the 140-yard par-3 second hole was Fujio Norihiro, and Stivers was closest on the 100-yard par-3 ninth hole.

All scores below are net (gross score minus handicap). A flight winners: Goltra, 4 under 67, first place; Fischer, 2 under 69, second; Norihiro and Stivers, 1 under par 70, third; Larry Hillhouse, even par 71, fourth; Sam Choi, fifth.

B flight winners: William Hillhouse, first place; Munn, second place.

There was no league golf on Jan. 20 due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round. There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter.

Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
