Tournament Poker Club has lessons available
Regular Tournament Poker Club tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month, in the Clubhouse 6 Lobby. Players can join in for a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in on Feb. 1. Registration begins at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
On Jan. 11 there were 49 participants ready to play an exciting game of Texas Hold ‘Em. Fiona Wolfe won both high hands. One was K-K-K-Q-Q and the other was K-K-K-10-10. Kathy Elliot won a prize for winning with the promo hand of 2-9.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Namil Shin, first place; ChungHe Scharschmidt, second; Harry Sera, third; Stanley Fong, fourth; Marvin Rolnick, fifth; Larry Slutsky, sixth; Jae Jun, seventh.
Play continued until Shin and Scharschmidt were head’s up. Holding A-7, Scharschmidt went all in before the flop and was called by Shin holding a pair of 3s . The flop was 8–Q-10, and Shin was in the lead with his 3s. The turn was an 8, which gave Shin two pair and the river was another 8, giving Shin the winning hand with 8s full of 3s. Shin has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the poker club for four years. This is his second final table win. Shin is an active member of the club, helping with set-ups and dealing. He enjoys riding bikes and snowboarding when he is not playing poker. The club congratulates Namil and thanks him for helping out when needed.

The club is only one person short of having enough people to start the next round of lessons at the Feb. 1 tournament. People who are just learning, have never played, or who’s skills are just a bit rusty are welcome to join. For more information, call Debbie at 325-721-0687.
