First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
God doesn’t always do what’s normal in man’s eyes. God’s ways are not man’s ways. Genesis 48 is proof of this.
In Genesis 48, Jacob is quite old and near death. His son Joseph comes to him and brings two of his own sons that had been born to Joseph in Egypt and presents them to his father. Jacob says in verse 9, “Bring them to me, please, that I may bless them.” Jacob stretches out his hand but crosses over his hands in such a manner that he was putting the younger ahead of the older in his blessing. Joseph quickly intercedes and attempts to correct his father. But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know; Manasseh is your eldest will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother Ephraim shall be greater, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations.”
Jacob tells Joseph that God had spoken to him, sometime before: “Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and make of you a multitude of people, and give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.”
Jacob repeated to Joseph the covenant of God spoken to him just as they were spoken by God to Abraham back in Genesis 17. The promise of a multitude of people, and the promise of the land they were standing on as an everlasting possession.
