Face shape was a hot topic at the Fun with Fashion Club’s September meeting as women donned hair-bands to pull their hair away from their faces to reveal their face shape more clearly.

Denise Konopelski, a retired cosmetologist, led the group in deciding which of the seven face-types each person presented. The seven primary facial shapes are: oval, square, round, triangle, rectangle, diamond, and heart. Konopelski pointed out that the benefit of knowing one’s face shape helps them choose appropriate hair styles. She then discussed all things hair: color and going gray, cutting and teasing, as well as using hair toppers.

Theresa Metzler was the model for Konopelski to show the group how to create volume with one’s own hair. Konopelski also demonstrated products that can increase hair volume, and she used C.C. Cooley as the model for a hair topper.

Participants also shared natural healthy-hair tips like olive oil treatments at home twice a year, and the use of apple cider vinegar as a rinse. Camille Dull suggested people look up the many uses and health benefits of vinegar.

In keeping with the mantra of the club—that feeling pretty includes mind and body—Dull discussed laughter, the great internal elixir, and how much laughter helps people’s minds and bodies. Studies show that children laugh an estimated 300 to 400 times a day, while adults laugh an average of only 15 to 20 times a day. Dull suggested each participant notice how many times a day they laugh, or don’t laugh. She indicated that laughter is so important, that more about laughter would be shared at future meetings.
