LW Korean Community Church (LWKCC) celebrated the 90th birthday of Elder Byun Young-Chul on Aug. 2.

The congregation honored Elder Young-Chul’s life of long-standing dedication to the local community and fellow countrymen and prayed for his continued health and happiness.

Since moving to Leisure World in 2010, Elder Young-Chul has faithfully served the community by establishing and teaching English classes for Korean residents. He has provided valuable service in various ways, such as translating local newspaper articles into Korean to help residents unfamiliar with English better understand local news.

In 2016, he was elected as the president of the Korean American Association, dedicating six years to strengthening the unity of the Korean community and protecting its rights and interests. Elder Byun’s family also holds a heartwarming love story; he and his wife, senior deaconess Kwon-sa Byun Deok-Soon, were born and raised in the same hometown, attended the same kindergarten and elementary school, and married at the age of 21, walking the journey of life together ever since. As a couple of the same age who cherish and rely on one another, they have built a healthy and happy home, serving as a beautiful example to many. Even at the age of 90, Elder Young-Chul continues to serve the community through English instruction and translation work. His life—demonstrating that there is always meaningful work to be done for God and one’s neighbors, regardless of age—serves as a model for how to live out one’s later years.

LWKCC holds a Sunday worship service at 14000 Church Place in the sanctuary every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The early morning prayer service, led by the senior pastor, is held at 6 a.m. from Tuesday-Saturday in the sanctuary. For more information, call 714-323-0897 or email yongjang10@gmail.com.
