Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em with the Tournament Poker Club for a $5 buy-in can play on Saturday, Aug. 1, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee and treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

On July 11, 64 participants were ready to play an exciting game of Texas Hold ‘Em. High hand winners were Carol Ostergaard with K-K-K-K-J, Brent Covington with A-A-A-K-K, and Edwin Lucero with J-J-J-K-K. Fiona Wolfe won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 7-3.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Deborah Casper, first place; Mike Gass, second; Harry Sera, third; Barry Bidreau, fourth; Glenn Evenson, fifth; Jeff Rolnick, sixth; Gary Fiorelli, seventh; Beth Metheny, eighth; Scott Johnson, ninth.

Play continued at the final table until Casper and Gass were head’s up. The flop was 10 of spades, 7 of clubs, 5 of spades. Holding 3 of hearts and 3 of clubs, Casper went all-in and was called by Gass holding ace of clubs and 5 of clubs. Gass had a pair of fives, giving him the higher hand. The turn card was 9 of hearts, which was no help to either player. The river card was 3 of spades, giving Casper three of a kind and the win in a closely contested match.

Casper has lived in Leisure World for eight years and has been a member of the poker club for five years. This was her second final table win. Besides poker, Casper enjoys traveling, biking, reading and needlework. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, Wayne, and the rest of their family.
