America First Republican Club

There are 14 different propositions on the ballot in the Nov. 3 General Election. LWers are invited to learn more about these propositions at Leisure World’s America First Republican Club meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Clubhouse 3, Room 2. Social time begins at 4:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring snacks to share. The meeting begins at 5.

The meeting’s guest speaker is Brian Pedral, the regional political director of Reform California, the fastest growing grassroots political movement in the state. It seeks to be the conservative counterbalance.

During the meeting, the club and Pedral will discuss the propositions on the upcoming ballots and how Republicans should vote on them, including:

• No on Prop. 40: the Billionaire Tax. Raises high taxes on everyone.

• No on Prop. 3: income tax increase. Makes permanent a tax that was sold as “temporary” in 2012, extended in 2016, and keeps California’s high income tax rates.

• No on Prop. 4: repeals a previously approved proposition ban on public financing of politicians’ campaigns.

Reform California achieves its mission in four ways: 1. Providing county specific “plain English” voter guides.

2. Campaigning “For” or “Against” various ballot propositions.

3. Providing alternative news via daily Reform California Podcasts.

4. Building a “Reform California Caucus” in the State Legislature.

The American First Republican Club will not meet on Sept. 16. It will instead hold its second annual member appreciation picnic luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 19, inside Clubhouse 1 with check-in starting at 11:30 a.m.
