Heading into the final stretch of California’s gubernatorial primary, the race for the top two general election slots has tightened into a statistical dead heat. According to the latest Emerson College tracking data and major media analyses, Democrat Xavier Becerra holds a narrow lead at 19%, closely chased by Republican Steve Hilton and Democrat Tom Steyer, who are tied at 17%. With California’s “top two” system advancing only the highest pair of vote-getters to November, the razor-thin margins between the three frontrunners, combined with 12% of voters remaining undecided, sets up a highly volatile scramble before the June 2 election. The LW Democratic Club encourages all Democrats to vote if they haven’t already done so.

Democratic Club canvassers are working to ensure the club’s endorsed candidates succeed in the upcoming general election. The LW Democratic Club has endorsed the following candidates:

•U.S. Congress, CA 42:

Robert Garcia

California State Senate 36th District: Chris Duncan

California State Assembly 72nd District: Chris Kluwe

•Superior Court Judges:

Ami Sheth Sagel, seat No. 41 and Robert Mestman, seat No. 13

• California Secretary of State: Shirley Weber

California Attorney General: Rob Bonta
