GRF Weekend Dance Schedule: August

The Golden Rain Foundation sponsors live performances in Leisure World clubhouses each month. These free dances are open to residents and their guests. This month’s lineup includes:

• Ballroom dance on Sunday, Aug. 2 and 16: The Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra is Leisure World’s own professional big band, playing big band swing and jazz standards. They will perform Sunday, Aug. 2, and again on Aug. 16 from 6-9 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. Doors open at 5:30. The orchestra performs regularly on the first and third Sundays.

• Rock ‘n’ roll on Saturday, Aug. 15: Vinyl Rock, GRF’s classic rock band, will perform Saturday, Aug. 15, in Clubhouse 4 from 6:30-9 p.m.

• Country rock on Saturday, Aug. 22: Abilene is Seal Beach Leisure World’s No. 1 country rock band. The band features Andre Dusomme on guitar and vocals, Jim Greer on drums, Vickie Van Ert vocals, Greg Johnson on keyboards and vocals, and Bob McAlister on bass and vocals. The band will perform Saturday, Aug. 22, from 6-9 p.m. in Clubhouse 2.

GRF dance rules are as follows:

• No table saving. People can bring their own snacks.

• People must be out of the clubhouse no later than 10 p.m. to permit adequate time for the custodian to tear down the setup and arrange the setup for the following day.

• No announcements are permitted from the stage, except by the bands.

• Clubhouse lighting and audio-visual equipment can only be adjusted by the custodian according to the instructions they have been given.

• Be sure to sign in, either as a resident or guest, in the proper spot. This is the only way GRF can judge the popularity of each band and keep them coming back.
