Paying tribute to the late Friends of Library president

With heavy hearts, the Friends of the Library announces the passing of its president, Roberta Johnson.

She exemplified the best of what it means to be a citizen of Leisure World. She was a longterm volunteer with the Friends’ Bookstore and Boutique, in management (unpaid, of course) for the past several years and was committed to the work of the bookstore and boutique. In addition to the Friends of the Library, Johnson was also active with the Golden Age Foundation and the American Legion.

She suffered a fall and never fully regained her strength, but she continued to perform her duties with the bookstore until the last few months. She was in the process of relocating to be closer to family when she died of pneumonia.

She will be greatly missed by her fellow volunteers and her two daughters. She was known to close friends and family as “Cookie.” This sweet, smart woman leaves a legacy of giving to others and making deep friendships in the community.
