Pedestrian crossings: When in doubt, obey signage
Traffic signals keep everyone safe by separating cars and people on foot. Every part of the signal cycle has a clear purpose. At the intersection of St. Andrews Drive and Golden Rain Road, the traffic cycle features a dedicated pedestrian phase known as a pedestrian scramble. During the scramble, pedestrians can use marked crosswalks to travel in any direction, and vehicles are directed to stay out of the crosswalk, even for right turns.
Rules for Pedestrians
• Wait for the Walk Sign: Start crossing only when the walking person symbol lights up.
• Never Cross on Green: A green vehicle light means cars have the right of way. Crossing then puts you in the path of moving traffic.
• Watch the Timer: Finish crossing quickly if the countdown timer is running. Do not start crossing if a solid or flashing hand is shown.
Rules for Drivers
• Obey No Turn on Red: Drivers must completely stop and obey the illuminated “No Turn on Red” sign during the dedicated pedestrian phase.
