Eight bands will compete for GRF dance contracts starting in October
BATTLE OF THE DANCE BANDS
The Recreation Department is excited to announce that the Battle of the Bands will begin Oct. 3. Interest in the contest has been brisk, and eight bands have been selected to perform on a rotating basis from October through next June; December is excluded due to special holiday events.
The bands will perform on the first, third and fifth Saturdays of the month in Clubhouse 1 from 6:30-9 p.m. Groups that are not included in the competition may still perform under sponsoring GRF clubs. Recreation will track attendance at both the competing bands and the club-sponsored events so be sure to sign in as those numbers will determine who wins a contract starting next July.
Abilene, Vinyl Rock and the Velvetones will continue to entertain on their normal schedule.
The bands competing for a paid contract are:
• Bad Dad Blues
• Barefoot Rider
• Brown the CousCous
• Coconut Breeze
• Easy Rider
• Legends of Rock
• Motown and More
• Vinyl Mavericks Community feedback is important in this process. Residents are invited to share their thoughts on these artists, as well as the existing groups, by email to recreation.department@lwsb.com.

Band Selection Timeline
Early August 2026
The Member Services Committee approves an initiative to add more GRF-sponsored dances.
Mid-August 2026 The Recreation Department begins an open call for bands to be considered for the new contract.
September 2026
Band applications due Sept. 12.
October 2026 New bands will begin performing on the first, third and fifth Saturdays of each month. October 2026-June 2027
The Recreation Department will track dance attendance and collect audience feedback.
July 2027
The Recreation Department will make a recommendation to the Member Services Committee suggesting which bands should receive a GRF dance contract.
