Rose Esposito Solan 1929-2026

Rose Esposito Solan, age 96, passed away peacefully at her Mutual 11 home in Leisure World Seal Beach on Aug. 15, 2026.

Rose was born on Nov. 19, 1929, in Bayonne, New Jersey, to Italian immigrants Anna and Michael Esposito and was one of eight children. While working at the American Can Company in New Jersey, she met Thomas E. Solan, the man who would become her husband of 72 years. They married in 1954 and raised four children together. In 1968, Rose and Tom packed their four children into the family station wagon and made the journey across the country to begin a new chapter in California.

Family was at the center of Rose’s life. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, and she believed deeply in keeping family close. She encouraged her children to work hard, pursue an education and succeed, while also teaching them their relationships with family are and should be important and supportive.

Rose had a strong spirit, seemingly endless energy, and an enormous capacity for caring for others. She expressed her love through what she did for people. Her door was always open, and there was always room for one more person at her dinner table—whether family, a friend, a neighbor or someone who simply needed a second mom.

Rose is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Thomas E. Solan; her children, Thomas E. Solan Jr. and his wife, Cindy; Ann Buttler; Amy Solan Bartlett and her husband, Ronald; and Mary Solan Cheves and her husband, Bill; as well as her grandchildren, Starr, Shanna, Nicholas; great-grandchildren Haley, Taylor, Declan, Liam, Cody and Kelsey; and her soon-to-be-born great-great granddaughter Rosalina.

Rose will be deeply missed by the many people who loved her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the people she cared for, the traditions she passed down and the countless ways she made room for others in her home and in her heart.
