New technology fosters inclusion at American Latino Club’s meeting

ACCESSIBILITY IN LEISURE WORLD

The American Latino Club took a major step forward in community accessibility during its monthly meeting on Aug. 13, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2.

Thanks to the collaboration between Golden Age Foundation, the GRF IT Department, and the Impaired Vision and Hearing Club with great support from GRF Directors Burdman and Sandy Geffner the club debuted a brand-new closed captioning equipment.

Following a brief instructional overview, members found the new system incredibly easy to operate. The technology marks a significant milestone for the club, seamlessly translating English dialogue to ensure Spanish-speaking members and guests could fully participate, while simultaneously providing essential support for individuals experiencing hearing loss.

With communication barriers removed, attendees settled in to enjoy a cultural double-feature. A captivating video presentation exploring the landscapes and heritage of Panama. The international journey continued through the palate with a catered Colombian lunch provided by +57 Colombian Cuisine out of Stanton.

The momentum continues next month as the club prepares for one of its biggest events of the year, the club’s Mexican Independence Day celebration on Friday, Sept. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in Clubhouse 2. For more information, see page 7. —Miryam Fernandez
