LW CARES FUND

August is National Make-A-Will Month. It serves as an annual reminder to create a will and trust or update these existing estate plan documents. It is also a time to consider supporting the mission of the Leisure World Cares Fund, which is to provide basic financial support to LW residents on low fixed incomes who struggle to pay their fees.

One of the most meaningful and flexible ways to support the future of Leisure World Cares Fund is through a bequest. A bequest is a gift made through a will or trust that supports the fund’s mission while a person continues to use assets during their lifetime.

People can choose to leave:

A Specific Bequest: A specific bequest involves making a gift of a specific asset such as real estate, a car, other property or a gift for a specific dollar amount. For example, a person can choose to leave their home or $10,000 to the Leisure World Cares Fund.

• A Percentage Bequest: This kind of bequest involves leaving a specific percentage of an overall estate to the fund. For example, a person chooses to leave 10% of their estate to the fund.

• A Specific Request: A specific request involves identifying assets, such as property, personal items, or investments. For example, a person chooses to leave a vehicle or appreciated stocks to the fund.

A bequest can be updated at any time and costs nothing today, making it an accessible option for supporters. Most importantly, it reflects a person’s values and helps ensure the work they care about continues for years to come.
