The Golden Age Foundation (GAF) hosted a post multicultural festival afterglow feast and celebration with 90 people on Aug. 12.

The event on July 18 brought over 130 performers and volunteers from six groups to celebrate the diversity of Leisure World, which was no small feat. Through it all, the GAF and performers worked together to showcase the beauty of diverse cultures while building strong bonds and friendships along the way.

As GRF Board President Jeffrey Mulqueen noted in his opening remarks, “We are fortunate to live in a multicultural community where we learn from one another, enriching our lives.” His encouraging words have inspired the GAF to aim even higher for next year.

Following the multicultural festival, nearly 90 people gathered in Clubhouse 4 for an afterglow party. While five of the six participating teams joined, Hui O Hula was not in attendance due to a scheduling conflict. The remaining teams brought an incredible spread of dishes to share with the performers, videographers, photographers and stage managers who ensured the event ran smoothly. Dishes included fried chicken and egg rolls from the Vietnamese Club; Spam musubi, inari sushi, kinpira gobo and oden from the Japanese Club; fried rice from the Chinese Friendship Club; bulgogi, japchae (glass noodles) and kimchi from the LW Arirang Club; and chicken rice soup and pancit from the Filipino Association of Leisure World. Performers in the Golden Age Foundation's afterglow party enjoyed a meal to celebrate a successful show. Caesar salad, Chinese crispy salad, and an assortment of desserts including fried bananas, cheesecake, and chocolate chip cookies. The watermelon was expertly sliced by James Farr. While enjoying dinner, people watched the recorded festival performances on the big screen, thanks to GRF Events Coordinator Gary Fitch’s setup. Afterward, Albert Comia led the group in easy line dances like Elvira, Some Beach, and the Electric Slide.
