LW MEN'S GOLF CLUB

The men’s club regular general meeting scheduled for Sept. 2 has been cancelled due to expected construction in Clubhouse 3. The next general meeting will be held on Nov. 4.

A shotgun scramble golf tournament is being planned for Sept. 30. There is a $10 entry fee. Sign-ups will be available at all men’s and women’s tournaments beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8. After the scramble, the men’s club will sponsor a potluck luncheon at the Clubhouse 2 picnic area. Main dish, sides, salads and desserts are needed. Attendees can sign up for what they will bring when they pay their entry fee. Drinks, cups, paper plates and utensils will be provided.

Fifty-two men met at the Turtle Lake Golf Course on Aug. 10. Bill Lyons scored a hole-inone on hole No. 2.

The golfers teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. with each man competing for best net scores, four circle holes and two closest to the pin challenges. With interesting playing conditions—the weather, and golfers not fixing ball marks, seems to be taking quite a toll on the course—it was not surprising that 23 of the 52 men scored net at or under par. There were 50 birdies and 10 circle hole winners.

Closest to the pin on hole No. 1 was Kevin Childress at 4 feet 8 inches, and on No. 10 it was John Zimmerman at 1 foot 7 inches. Average net score for the round was 56.1 or just more than two strokes over par. Low net score for the round was Young Lee at 8 under par 46, followed by Rolando Ramirez at 6 under 48, and four golfers at 4 under 50. Low gross for the round was Bill Lyons at 4 under 50, followed by four golfers at 1 over 55.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-6): Alan Sewell, first place: Pat Paternoster, second; Bill Lyons, third; Ralph Koizumi, Jae Choi and Dong On Kim, fourth; Seung Lee, Andrew Kim and Bob Barnum, fifth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 7-12): Young Lee, first place; Ramirez, second; Jun Um, third; Richard Yokomi, fourth; Rod Osgood, fifth; Ron Steele and Mark Tal, sixth.

C flight winners (handicaps of 13-18): Scott Tuchfarber, first place; John Zimmerman, second; Mike Fennessy, Ben Benjamins and Won H. Park, third; Paul Shellenberger and Terry Thrift, fourth.

The next men’s tournament is Aug. 28. Players scheduled or who plan to play and cannot should contact Alan Sewell at 541-324-8558 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible. Check bulletin boards for the tournament schedule starting times.
