Mutual 9 resident Min Chen explores unforgettable Kenya

Before my June 21-30 trip to Kenya, my travel service asked me what kind of experience I wanted to have. “I am curious about how animals survive in such a harsh environment” was my answer.

As it turned out, the reality was completely unexpected.

At the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, I visited the only two surviving northern white rhinos and even had the chance to touch one of them.

On a beautiful morning, lazy lions laid belly-up in the sun while zebras and gazelles wandered nearby.

In another early morning safari, we watched as a hyena was caught by a lion pride, eventually managing to stand up and walk away. Sadly, if his own family finds him wounded, they will strip his meat to the bone.

In the Maasai Mara, these living stories happen every day. Just like the human world, the animal kingdom has its own rules for survival—simple and straightforward.
