Tournament Poker Club will play July 11 in CH 6
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in can play at the Tournament Poker Club tournament on Saturday, July 11, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month and start at 10 a.m. with registration. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
On June 27 the club had a great turnout for its semi-annual Casino Tournament. Seventy players made for exciting play and a great game. A casino tournament is different from the game usually played. There is still a blind schedule, but the bets can be any amount right from the start of the game. As players are eliminated, tables are broken and the remaining players are moved to spaces created at other tables. When there are only nine players left there is a final table. The final table players were: Renato Villanueva, first place; Harry Nichols, second; Shelly Yu, third; Debbie Casper, fourth; Jess Pringle, fifth; Kurt Bourhenne, sixth; Barry Brideau, seventh; Joseph Krausmann, eighth; and Jack Pfeifer, ninth. At the final table, play continued until Villanueva— holding 10 diamond, 6 hearts—and Nichols —holding 2 spades, 3 diamonds —were head’s up. Nichols went all-in before the flop and was called by Villanueva. The flop came 10 hearts, 5 spades, 3 spades, giving Villanueva a pair of tens and Nichols a pair of threes. Neither the turn, 9 diamonds, nor the river, 4 spades, changed the outcome and Villanueva won the tournament.
Villanueva has lived in Leisure World for 19 years and has been a member of the club for 15 years. He has worn many hats in Leisure World during that time. He is part of the Filipino Club and a past president of that group, as well as the Bowling Club when it was active. He plays billiards, sings at karaoke, and in his spare time likes to fish.
