LW Men’s Golf League
Gloom and humidity greeted 15 golfers of the Leisure World Men’s League at Meadowlark Golf Course on June 29. Meadowlark is a 5,600-yard par 71 course that has numerous water hazards and large elevation changes on the back nine.
The morning clouds never gave way to sunshine for the entire round, and a healthy wind arrived around the 15th hole. This apparently helped the golfers as ten of the 15 golfers scored at or below net par with several low scores. The greens and fairways were in good shape with no remaining residual issues from the heavy winter rains.
There were eight birdies— two each by Jim Goltra and Bruno Santillo, and one each by Kyle Van, Clay Fisher, Chris Lankford, and Jae Choi. Closest to the pin challenges were won by Van on No. 7, and Lankford on No. 16. Van and Tom Ross had fewest putts for the round.
Net score equals gross minus handicap.
A flight winners (handicaps of 1-19): Van, first place; Steve Earl, second; Fisher and Bruno Santillo, third; Sam Choi, fourth; Lankford, fifth; Norihiro, sixth; Dave LaCascia, seventh; Gary Stivers and Goltra, eighth.
B flight winners (handicaps of 20 and higher): Scott Slade, first place; Tom Ross, second; Mike Jimenez, third; Won Park, fourth; Randy Massaro, fifth.
The league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
