Study in healthcare communication seeks participants 65 and older

CSU, FULLERTON

Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are the most common cause of cognitive problems in people 65 and older. To find better treatments, researchers need older adults to join clinical trials.

However, many people do not join clinical trials because they do not know the studies exist and/or how to find them. That is why it is important for healthcare providers to provide clear information to their patients about clinical trials.

Dr. Joshua Yang and colleagues at California State University, Fullerton, are conducting a study to understand how healthcare providers can best communicate about clinical trials with their patients and how their patients prefer to learn about clinical trials. Study volunteers will participate in a 45-60 minute interview that can be conducted in-person or over Zoom.

They will be asked questions about their interactions with health care providers and where they obtain medical information.

Participants will be provided with a $60 gift card for their time.

The study seeks two groups of participants: 1) Adults 18 years or older who have cared for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

2) Adults 65 years or older who have never been informal caregivers for a loved one with dementia.

People who are interested in participating should contact Maeva Laflamme at (657) 2784384 or via email at agetech@fullerton.edu.
