People who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em with a $5 buy-in are welcome to join the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, July 4, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month, starting at 10 a.m. with registration.

Cards are in the air at 10:30 a.m. There is a no-late-seating policy for tournament play. The club is at seating capacity. People who arrive late probably will not be able to play.

The club had about 65 players for the tournament on June 13. High hand winners were Marvin Rolnick (K-9 straight flush spades), Kathy Seagroves (A-A-A-A-8), and Don Williams (7-7-7-7-A). There was no winner for the promo hand.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were Marvin Rolnick, first place; Bob Konier, second; Jeff Rolnick, third; Donna Hernandez, fourth; Joe Krausman, fifth; Tom Pappas, sixth; Katie Hamilton, seventh; and Eric Holdaway, eighth.

Play continued at the final table until Rolnick and Konier were heads up. In the final hand of the match, Rolnick was holding A-10 and Konier had K-8. Konier went all in before the flop and was called by Rolnick. The flop cards were 4 diamonds, 3 hearts, 7 hearts, which was no help to Rolnick but gave Konier a slight edge with a possible straight.

The turn was a 6 spades, increasing the likelihood of a straight for Konier and leaving Rolnick with only A-high. The river was the turning point in the match as the Q spades was not the card that Konier needed but gave Rolnick the win with a hand of A-high.

Rolnick has lived in Leisure World for six years and has been a member of the club for five years. He has been at the final table several times, with this being his sixth win. Rolnick plays in several poker groups in Leisure World and has a serious interest in writing and motivational speaking. He is a member of the Creative Writer’s Club and is a recently published author. He has given several talks to various groups here in Leisure World and has a podcast that reaches many others.
