American Latino Club
The American Latino Club will meet on Thursday, June 11, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. All are welcome to join. This month the club will honor the country of Cuba and share a video on its customs and history.
The club will provide lunch from Porto’s Bakery in Buena Park. Meal choices are plato de pollo, which is grilled, marinated, skin-on chicken breast, served with steamed jasmine rice, Cuban-style black beans, and maduros (sweet, fried plantain) with a side of cilantro salsa verde (fresh herbs, citrus, crushed red pepper, and a touch of avocado); plato de ropa vieja, which is Cuban-style stewed beef with bell pepper, onion, olive, tomato sauce and Spanish seasonings served with steamed jasmine rice, Cuban-style black beans, and maduros; or plato de lechon, which is slow-roasted pork, mojo (Cuban garlic sauce) and pickled red onion served with steamed jasmine rice, Cuban-style black beans, and maduros.
People can choose between guava strudel puff pastry with Porto’s signature guava jam, cheese roll puff pastry made with Porto’s signature cream cheese filling, topped with sugar, or apple strudel puff pastry made with Europeanstyle butter filled with apple, raisin, pecan and bits of Rosa’s original Cuban cake, topped with powdered sugar.
The cost for lunch is $22 for members and $25 for guests. Payments and lunch choices are due by no later than 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7.
People can submit payments and meal choices to Treasurer Rachel Fullum by dropping it off in her mailbox at 1371 Oakmont Road, 150-L, Seal Beach, CA 90740 (allow 9-12 days for delivery if using U.S. Mail). Payment by check should be made payable to the American Latino Club.
For more information or to RSVP, call Fullum at 310869-7730. The club welcomes all guests; however, it cannot guarantee guest meals unless they have pre-ordered as the club does not order extra meals.
In celebration of Father’s Day, the club invites people to share their favorite 5-10 minute story about dads. The club will also enjoy socializing and playing games of bingo or loteria during the meeting.
The club will meet on Thursday, July 16, in the Clubhouse 1 picnic area for a Fourth of July picnic.
