Seniors for Peace will meet on Thursday, June 4, at 2 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, with guest speaker Stephanie Wade. She will present her efforts to start a Leisure World Rapid Response Network, a community- led group that documents and responds to ICE raids and detentions and offers support to affected families.

A decentralized movement of independent Rapid Response Networks has sprung up all over the country. Each organized independently and provides aid that makes sense for its community, the services often include neighbor-to-neighbor warnings of immigration enforcement operations, observing/documenting raids, providing food and/or transportation to families who have been driven underground, and providing many other aid/ services as needed.

Wade is a former Marine Corps infantry officer, environmental activist, board member of a national pro-trans PAC, and chair of the Lavender Democrats. She’s been active with many other progressive organizations as well. Since beginning her retirement in Leisure World in 2025, she remains as devoted to progressive causes as she is to surfing, woodworking, her cats and her kids, not necessarily in that order.
