Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore

On Sunday, May 31, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate Holy Trinity Sunday. This day is recognized as the birthday of the church. The Rev. Murray Finck will preside over the Holy Communion Service at 13564 St. Andrews Drive at 10:30 a.m. People can stay after service for fellowship in the Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea, cookies and snacks. The congregations also collect donations of canned food for those in need.

The Bible study will meet on Wednesday, June 3, from noon-1:15 p.m. The group will continue its study in the Acts of the Apostles. People are encouraged to bring their Bibles, a friend or neighbor, and lunch. This is a great opportunity for believers to expand their knowledge of the early church and make a new friend.

The gospel lesson for this week is from Matthew 28:1620, where Jesus delivers the Great Commission to his 11 apostles. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you,” Matthew 28:16-20.

This is the continuing action of the church. Jesus’ followers are sent to be and make disciples through actions and words. A believer can tell a person all about Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, but that will not convince a person that faith in the Trinity is a good thing. It’s a believer’s actions—how they treat others and how they speak about and to others— that shows how faith in the Trinity changes a person.

Having faith is hard; living in faith is harder. The dangers Jesus spoke of to his disciples can still happen to believers today. Living in faith can be dangerous; many people have lost their lives for their faith. It is not for the faint of heart but the final reward is great.
